Orders issued in Abbotsford Ed. Ass'n v. WERC; No. 24AP2429
February 12, 2025 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court has issued an order in Abbotsford Education Association v. Wisconsin Employment Relations Commission, case no. 2024AP2429. The denial of bypass means that the appeal will proceed in the normal course in the court of appeals.
In addition, Justice Janet Protasiewicz issued an order denying a recusal motion.

Chief Justice Ziegler delivers the State of the Judiciary address
November 13, 2024 - Wisconsin Supreme Court Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler delivered the State of the Judiciary address Nov. 13 at the 2024 Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Judicial Conference. Supreme Court issues order in Evers v. Marklein, 2023AP2020-OA
October 9, 2024 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court has issued an order in the case of Evers v. Marklein (2023AP2020-OA), dismissing one issue and accepting another for review. The court will hear arguments about whether legislative veto provisions allowing a legislative committee to block executive agency rulemaking violate the separation of powers doctrine. Ceremony announced to name Wisconsin State Law Library in honor of Lavinia Goodell
September 23, 2024 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court, in partnership with the Director of State Courts Office and the Wisconsin State Law Library, invites the public to a special ceremony on Monday, September 30, at noon, to officially name the Wisconsin State Law Library in honor of Lavinia Goodell, Wisconsin's first woman lawyer. see full article

Wisconsin Supreme Court issues three orders in two cases
July 2, 2024 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court has issued three orders July 2 in two cases. In Kaul v. Urmanski, No. 2023AP2362, the court issued an order granting a petition for bypass. In Planned Parenthood v. Urmanski, No. 2024AP330-OA, the court issued an order granting the petition for leave to commence an original action and an order denying an intervention motion, but granting an alternative motion to file a non-party brief regarding the petition.

June 26, 2024 - "Today the entire court was shocked to learn that a confidential draft document was ostensibly leaked to the press. I have contacted law enforcement to request that a full investigation be conducted. We are all united behind this investigation to identify the source of the apparent leak. The seven of us condemn this breach."

June 19, 2024 - The Wisconsin Supreme Court announced today that the State Law Library will be named in honor of Lavinia Goodell, the first woman lawyer in Wisconsin. Click here to learn more.
Wisconsin Supreme Court accepts three new cases, including LeMieux v. Governor Evers
June 17, 2024 - On June 17, the Wisconsin Supreme Court accepted three new cases during its conference. The Court granted the original action request in LeMieux v. Governor Evers, case no. 24AP729-OA. The other cases accepted by the Court include Oconomowoc Area School District v. Cota, case no. 22AP1158; and Douglas County v. K.A.D., case no. 23AP1072. All orders and the motions to which they relate are available on the electronic docket in the public SCCA database.

Chief Justice establishes committee to address attorney shortage
June 6, 2024 -
Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler today announces the creation of the Attorney Retention & Recruitment Committee to address Wisconsin’s attorney shortage, which is particularly acute in rural counties. The committee is comprised of the deans of Wisconsin's two law schools, representatives of the State Bar of Wisconsin, and attorneys and judges from around the state. Chief judges from the state’s nine judicial administrative districts will help lead the effort.
