The Wisconsin Supreme Court has submitted its 2025-27 biennial budget request to the Legislature and Governor. The highlight of the request is funding to establish the Office of the Supreme Court Marshal as a specialized law enforcement agency for the Wisconsin Court System. If approved, the budget would have the funds to employ eight full-time law enforcement officers and two civilians to provide security services, dignitary protection, as well as security consultation and evaluation for judges and court facilities. Other key requests include additional funding for the Consolidated Court Automation System (CCAP) to support services and supplies, and the addition of a permanent position for the Court Interpreter Program.
The Governor is expected to introduce his budget in February 2025, with the Legislature set to deliberate during the Spring of 2025. Once the budget bill gets passed into law and signed by the Governor, it goes into effect July 1, 2025.
Copies of the court system budget requests—one for each level of the courts—are posted on the state Department of Administration’s website.
