The State Bar of Wisconsin has announced Ryan Billings as the president-elect in its recent elections, which concluded on April 26, 2024.
In a closely contested race, Billings defeated Jennifer Johnson of Milwaukee by 1,615 votes to 1,376. Traditionally, the president-elect holds the position for a year before assuming the presidency for another year, with the transition scheduled for July 1, 2024.
Billings, affiliated with Kohner, Mann & Kailas, S.C. in Milwaukee, expressed gratitude for his election, pledging to diligently fulfill his responsibilities and provide unwavering support to all lawyers licensed in Wisconsin. He extended appreciation to Governor Johnson for her dedicated service to the State Bar. Billings also acknowledged the collective effort of his supporters, including his firm, friends, colleagues, and individuals he encountered during his campaign.
In additional State Bar races, Martina Gast, a lawyer at Pipestone Law, LLC in Lake Mills, secured a two-year term as secretary. Margo Kirchner, representing Wisconsin Justice Initiative Inc. in Milwaukee, emerged victorious in the contest for the three-year term as Judicial Council representative.
