After almost eight years on the Racine County Branch 4 bench, Judge Mark Nielsen retired on January 1. A graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Nielsen returned to his native Racine after receiving his law degree from Harvard Law School.
Nielsen was first elected to the bench in 2016, and reelected in 2022. He had previously served as a municipal judge for the city of Racine, as a court commissioner and assistant district attorney from Racine County, and worked in private practice as a defense attorney.
“I view the last eight years as the experience of a lifetime,” Nielsen wrote when announcing his retirement to Gov. Tony Evers.
