The Wisconsin judicial system grew this month as Governor Tony Evers announced two appointments to the bench. With diverse backgrounds and extensive experience, these judges are poised to make valuable contributions to the administration of justice.
Green County Circuit Court
On March 15, Jane Bucher was appointed to the Green County Circuit Court – Branch 2, filling the vacancy created by Chief Judge Thomas J. Vale's resignation. Vale will step down from the bench on April 5, 2024.
Bucher, a partner at Russell Law Offices SC, has been appointed to complete a term that ends on July 31, 2025. Before joining the law firm, she spent a decade as an assistant state public defender, where she helped create the Green County Drug Court. The Governor expressed his confidence in Bucher's ability to serve the people of Green County. He stated that she is a well-respected attorney with a breadth of experience who is committed to public service and improving her community.
Bucher expressed her eagerness and commitment to serving the people of Green County with humility, fairness, and respect. "It is an honor to be appointed by Gov. Evers to serve all the people of Green County as judge," said Bucher. "I will work collaboratively to strengthen the justice system and strive to ensure equal justice under the law."

Marinette County Circuit Court
Peggy Miller was appointed as the Marinette County Circuit Court – Branch 1 judge in late March, filling the vacancy left by Judge Jane M. Sequin's resignation, effective July 31, 2024. Miller is set to complete a term ending on July 31, 2025.
Having served as the family court commissioner, court commissioner, and register in probate for Oconto County since 2019, Miller brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Additionally, Miller spent two decades in private practice in Northeast Wisconsin, representing clients in various aspects of family law, small claims matters, and as a guardian ad litem.
A lifelong resident of Northeast Wisconsin, Miller will be relocating to Marinette County to assume her new position. Miller has been actively involved in various professional and community organizations, serving as the secretary and treasurer of the Family Court Commissioner Association and as a board member of the YWCA of Greater Green Bay.
Expressing her gratitude, Miller said, "It is an amazing opportunity, as well as a dream come true, to become a judge in Marinette County. There can be no greater honor than to be able to serve the citizens of such a beautiful and historic county."
