Welcome to the Wisconsin Court System's website

Chief Justice Annette Kingsland Ziegler

Welcome to the Wisconsin Court System's website. I hope that you will find the site to be informative and useful. Our website provides a wealth of information ranging from an overview of the Wisconsin Court System to general court information and, when possible, answers to specific questions.

The judicial branch of government is perhaps the least understood. An enormous volume of court business is transacted every day. Even when judges are not on the bench in a courtroom, they are nonetheless working diligently behind the scenes. Judicial officers and court staff and personnel work tirelessly to best serve the public.

The decisions of the Wisconsin Supreme Court affect the public as a whole, resolving issues that are of statewide significance. Most people are unfamiliar with the many other important matters with which the Wisconsin Supreme Court is tasked. We oversee numerous committees and court related organizations and engage in rulemaking. In all matters, the Court is committed to ensuring that it is independent, open, fair, and efficient.

The Supreme Court Hearing Room, where we hold oral arguments and public rules hearings, is spectacular. I invite you to visit us and see for yourself. Our hearing room is located on the second floor of the East wing of the State Capitol building in Madison. I encourage all to experience firsthand a proceeding of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. The Court's calendar can be found here. However, if you cannot attend in person, you can watch our oral arguments and rules hearings online here.

Sincerely,
Annette Kingsland Ziegler
