Court of Appeals

Harold M. Bode was elected to District II when the Court of Appeals was created in 1978. He was sixty-eight years old at the time and would have had to retire as a Kenosha County circuit judge in two years, but he ran for the higher court in the interests of its seating a veteran judge. "Without the experience of being an active trial judge," he told the Milwaukee Sentinel, "I don't think you fully appreciate the position that the trial judge is in when he must make decisions, sometimes under pressure."

He served two years on the Court of Appeals and retired. He died on December 3, 1993.
