Wisconsin eFiling Update: Fe-burrrr-ary news of note

(Volume 4, Issue 1–February 15, 2019)

What did the hat say to the scarf? You hang around while I go on a head.

Bad jokes aside, the last few weeks of Wisconsin weather have proven that, in terms of layers, less is not more and more is not enough. Amidst the burden of bundling up, some pretty significant changes have been transpiring in the world of eFiling and we're not leaving you out in the cold. Read on for important eFiling information, including details about the upcoming mandatory rollout date.

March 4 mandatory eFiling implementation

While plans are solidifying for the integration of a couple of additional case types later this year, we're on the homestretch of the implementation schedule with the final major rollout just around the corner. March 4, 2019 marks the date on which electronic filing becomes mandatory for attorneys filing cases and documents in all Wisconsin circuit courts for the following case types:

Open and pending cases of the aforementioned types will be automatically converted for electronic filing. All subsequent filings on these cases must be made using the eFiling system. Additionally, all new cases that fall within this subset of case types must be electronically filed beginning March 4. Filing paper documents will no longer be an option for attorneys on these cases.

Improving communication

Functionality was recently built into court software allowing clerks to add and manage notice recipients. A notice recipient is an individual or agency who is not a party on a case, but may need to receive notices about case activity or copies of court-generated documents. Notices and forms are distributed to notice recipients by either mail or email.
