New Web program uses video games to teach civics

Madison, Wisconsin - June 10, 2009

A new Web program developed by former U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor in partnership with Georgetown University Law Center and Arizona State University uses video games to help middle school students understand the role of courts and judges. The games give students an opportunity to step into the shoes of a fictional judge, addressing complex scenarios that force them to make difficult decisions.

The program, called Our Courts, also features a 'Talk to the Justice' page where students can post questions and comments for Justice O'Connor, and a 'Build a Curriculum' page for teachers.

Our Courts is now available to Wisconsin students and teachers here. (external link)
