Director of State Courts
Meeting the administrative needs of a branch of government requires broad expertise and substantial resources. From maintaining a statewide computer system to administering a multi-million dollar budget to providing continuing education for judges, professional staff in the Director of State Courts Office perform the many non-judicial tasks associated with the operation of the court system.
The director of state courts, under the direction of the chief justice, is the chief non-judicial officer of the state court system and has authority and responsibility for the overall management of the court system. The specific functions of the director are set out in Supreme Court Rule, Chapter 70 .
The administrators and staff in the Director of State Courts Office are located in Madison and in ten offices across the state. (See map.) Each of the ten offices is staffed by a district court administrator and a court management assistant and provides management for the courts in a designated county or group of counties. The district court administrator works in cooperation with a chief judge and deputy chief judge appointed by the Supreme Court.
